Brown Fen Walking Trail
The Brown Fen Walking Trail is a 66.5 mile (107km) long largely circular route that encompasses both the rivers Welland and Glen. Parts of the route can also be covered on bicycle or by boat.
Mostly meandering along the Fens waterways, the trail takes in traditional fenland countryside and villages. Roaming from the historical port of Boston into Spalding, the route also travels through Crowland.
There are many places to stop for refreshments along the trail and many of the villages have pubs and village stores.
Baston and Thurlby Fen Nature Reserve
The 5.5 hectare Baston & Thurlby Fen Nature Reserve is one of the most important remaining areas of wet fenland in Lincolnshire.
The site is managed by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and is one of the last strongholds for many rare and endangered plants, birds and invertebrates.
While walking in the reserve you will see large numbers of wildfowl and rare water plants. The site is nationally important and designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
